With summer right around the corner, the team at CommonLit is thinking about how to keep students reading at home to help prevent learning loss. Early research is showing that COVID-19 learning losses may cause students to return in the fall with approximately 70% of learning gains in reading compared to a typical school year (The COVID-19 Slide, NWEA). That’s why CommonLit is offering an online, completely free reading challenge to keep children actively reading this summer.
The Challenge:
CommonLit’s Summer Reading Challenge will run from June 1st — August 1st, 2020 and will provide participating families and their children with free, high-interest reading lists curated by our team of former teachers. Students can easily complete each lesson on CommonLit.org and will be eligible for a certificate of participation at the end of the summer.
How to Participate:
We’ve designed this to be easy for families to do at home, so parents do not need to create a parent/guardian account on CommonLit in order to participate. Instead, please follow the directions below to join our email list to receive all relevant information about the Summer Reading Challenge:
2. Scroll down to the section titled “Sign your child up for CommonLit’s Summer Reading Challenge”
