Welcome to the parent guide for this text! Read below to find out about what your child is reading in class and how you can support him/her at home.

This week in class, we’re reading "Compliance" by Saul McLeod.

Compliance is a type of social influence where an individual conforms to a rule. Unlike obedience, there is only a request rather than an order. In this article, the author reviews three techniques that can make individuals comply.

As we read, we will be discussing the theme of Social Pressure as it relates to the text. We are trying to answer this big question :

"Why do people follow the crowd?"

Ways to support your child:

  • Ask your child about this psychology article at home:
    • What was "Compliance" about?
    • What did you learn about Social Pressure?
  • Watch What to Say to Get Your Way at home with your child.
