Welcome to the parent guide for this text! Read below to find out about what your child is reading in class and how you can support him/her at home.

This week in class, we’re reading "Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" by Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

"The Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" is a document written by suffragette Elizabeth Cady Stanton and signed by 68 women and 32 men at the Seneca Falls Convention — the first women's rights convention. This number represents 100 people who signed the following document, out of a total of 300 people who were in attendance at the convention, showing how "The Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" was controversial in its time.

As we read, we will be discussing the themes of Gender Roles and Social Change & Revolution as they relate to the text. We are trying to answer these big questions :

"How do we define the roles of men and women?" and "How do people create change?"

Ways to support your child:

  • Ask your child about this historical document at home:
    • What was "Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" about?
    • What did you learn about Gender Roles?
    • What did you learn about Social Change & Revolution?
  • Watch Women in the 19th Century: Crash Course US History #16 at home with your child.
