Welcome to the parent guide for this text! Read below to find out about what your child is reading in class and how you can support him/her at home.

This week in class, we’re reading "The Fox and the Lion" by Aesop.

Aesop was an Ancient Greek storyteller and slave credited with a number of fables now collectively known as Aesop's Fables. In this fable, a fox, never having seen a lion before, experiences fear and prejudice at the sight of one.

As we read, we will be discussing the theme of Prejudice & Discrimination as it relates to the text. We are trying to answer this big question :

"How does prejudice emerge?"

Ways to support your child:

  • Ask your child about this fable at home:
    • What was "The Fox and the Lion" about?
    • What did you learn about Prejudice & Discrimination?
  • Watch Responding to Diverse Identities at home with your child.
