Welcome to the parent guide for this text! Read below to find out about what your child is reading in class and how you can support him/her at home.

This week in class, we’re reading "The Wounded Knee Massacre" by Digital History.

In "The Wounded Knee Massacre," a variety of personal accounts shed light on the violent conflict between the Sioux and American soldiers on December 29, 1890.

As we read, we will be discussing the themes of America, Comedy & Tragedy, and Death as they relate to the text. We are trying to answer these big questions :

"How has America changed over time?", "How do people face death?", and "What can we learn from tragedy?"

Ways to support your child:

  • Ask your child about this primary source document at home:
    • What was "The Wounded Knee Massacre" about?
    • What did you learn about America?
    • What did you learn about Comedy & Tragedy?
    • What did you learn about Death?
  • Watch The Tragedy of Wounded Knee (The Ghost Dance) at home with your child.
