Welcome to the parent guide for this text! Read below to find out about what your child is reading in class and how you can support him/her at home.

This week in class, we’re reading "Tuskegee Airmen" by Jessica McBirney.

In "Tuskegee Airmen," Jessica McBirney focuses on the group of African-American pilots known as the Tuskegee Airmen, who were were critical to the success of the U.S. Army during World War II and whose accomplishments led to the desegregation of the military.

As we read, we will be discussing the themes of Resilience & Success, Social Change & Revolution, and War & Peace as they relate to the text. We are trying to answer these big questions :

"How does a person overcome adversity?", "How do people create change?", and "How are we changed by war?"
