CommonLit Archive Free CommonLit Professional Development for NYC Educators

Through the generous support of the Robin Hood Foundation, CommonLit is providing all New York City public school teachers with access to CommonLit’s Professional Development Portal at no cost throughout SY 20–21. This Professional Development Portal includes 20+ trainings on best practices for utilizing commonlit.org with students. Teachers in New York City will also be invited to attend live webinar trainings that are designed to support distance and remote learning with CommonLit.

CommonLit’s Professional Development Portal

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, CommonLit has developed a series of 20+ trainings that focus on best practices for using CommonLit’s free digital program. These trainings are designed to support teachers who have various levels of experience using CommonLit’s program. The Professional Development Portal includes trainings that focus on:

  • Tips for getting started with CommonLit’s digital program,
  • Strategies for utilizing CommonLit’s Spanish lessons,
  • Best practices for unit and lesson planning,
  • Utilizing CommonLit’s resources in a distance learning environment,
  • Effectively using CommonLit’s data tools to drive instruction, and
  • Strategies for parent engagement with CommonLit.

These trainings are designed to fit flexibly within any professional development plan. The modules can be facilitated by an instructional leader or can be completed independently by teachers who are looking to further develop their skills.

To access these resources, log into your CommonLit.org account and click on the Professional Development tab in the top right corner of the page.

CommonLit’s Professional Development Portal includes 20+ trainings that make it easy to effectively incorporate best practices into classroom instruction when using CommonLit.

Specialized Webinars

Throughout SY 20–21, CommonLit will also be offering specialized live webinars to educators in New York City. During these live trainings, educators will have the opportunity to hear directly from CommonLit’s instructional and technology specialists to learn more about the specific features CommonLit has created that are designed to support digital and remote learning. Educators in attendance will have the opportunity to submit questions to CommonLit specialists and learn all of the ins and outs of our free reading program.

The first training that CommonLit will be offering will be its Getting Started with CommonLit webinar. During this training, NYC teachers will learn all about CommonLit’s digital program. To sign up for this webinar, click here.

During subsequent webinars, we’ll tackle in-depth topics including: best practices for utilizing CommonLit’s Distance Learning Units and strategies for maximizing CommonLit’s integration with Google Classroom. We’ll be sharing more information about these webinars in the coming weeks via email!
