Parent Guide > Cheboygan Day
Welcome to the parent guide for this text! Read below to find out about what your child is reading in class and how you can support him/her at home.
This week in class, we’re reading "Cheboygan Day" by Brittany Allen.
In "Cheboygan Day," two siblings are treated very differently by their peers when they arrive as new students in a small coastal town.
As we read, we will be discussing the themes of Community, Identity, Loneliness & Isolation, Morality, Prejudice & Discrimination, and Social Pressure as they relate to the text. We are trying to answer these big questions :
"What is the importance of community?", "What does it mean to feel alone?", "What are the effects of following the crowd?", "Can you change your identity?", "What makes you who you are?", "How does prejudice emerge?", and "Why do people do bad things?"
