Parent Guide > Eyes Looking to the Sky
Welcome to the parent guide for this text! Read below to find out about what your child is reading in class and how you can support him/her at home.
This week in class, we’re reading "Eyes Looking to the Sky" by Christopher Hallman.
In "Eyes Looking to the Sky," a Polynesian boy travels in a voyaging canoe to settle Rapa Nui (Easter Island).
As we read, we will be discussing the themes of Growing Up, Honor & Courage, and Human vs. Nature as they relate to the text. We are trying to answer these big questions :
"Why should we value our youth?", "What does it mean to be brave?", and "Who's in control: humanity or nature?"
Ways to support your child:
-
Ask your child about this historical fiction at home:
- What was "Eyes Looking to the Sky" about?
- What did you learn about Growing Up?
- What did you learn about Honor & Courage?
- What did you learn about Human vs. Nature?
