Welcome to the parent guide for this text! Read below to find out about what your child is reading in class and how you can support him/her at home.

This week in class, we’re reading "San Martín in the Mist" by Laura Resau.

In "San Martín in the Mist," a young girl fights against injustice in her village in Oaxaca, Mexico.

As we read, we will be discussing the themes of Fear & Paranoia, Growing Up, Honor & Courage, Power & Greed, and Social Change & Revolution as they relate to the text. We are trying to answer these big questions :

"How does fear drive action?", "What does it mean to be grown up?", "What does it mean to be brave?", "How does power corrupt?", and "Why do people resist change?"
