Parent Guide > The Falling Girl
Welcome to the parent guide for this text! Read below to find out about what your child is reading in class and how you can support him/her at home.
This week in class, we’re reading "The Falling Girl" by Dino Buzzati (translated by Lawrence Venuti).
In "The Falling Girl," a 19-year-old girl falls from the top of a skyscraper and encounters various people inside the building as she descends towards the ground.
As we read, we will be discussing the themes of Death, Fate & Free Will, and Gender Roles as they relate to the text. We are trying to answer these big questions :
"How do people face death?", "Can we control our fate?", and "How do we define the roles of men and women?"
Ways to support your child:
-
Ask your child about this magical realism at home:
- What was "The Falling Girl" about?
- What did you learn about Death?
