Kwanzaa Days

In the seven mornings,

            Greet me with Habari gani?

And I will try to answer

            Umoja or Imani.

During the seven days,

            Lay out the mkeka and cup.

And I will count the muhindi

            And gifts that you wrap up.

In the seven evenings,

            Light the candles: red, black, green.

And I will grow up knowing

            What my African roots mean.
